Navigating Reality with Insight
Reality can be tough. Sometimes, even my most trusted guide—my intuition—leads me astray.
In the 1970s, scientists who championed human intuition found their beliefs challenged by the scientific method. Their assertion that intuition was superior to science didn’t hold up. The reality is that human intuition can falter.
There are Limitations to Intuition Why does this happen? Science has a higher chance of proving theories than intuition. The human brain can’t make as many connections in the time allowed.
My own intuition has faltered too, prompting me to recalibrate it to better fit reality.
Before my first entrepreneurial failure five years ago, I relied on my intuition. Unfortunately, it let me down.
Why did this happen? I overloaded myself with information, believing that it would refine my intuition. I was mistaken. This approach turned my life upside down, trapping me in a cycle of excess information that clouded my judgment.
While my intuition is strong, I misled it with unfiltered information.
There is a Path to Recovery David Lynch said, “Intuition is the key to everything—in painting, filmmaking, business—everything.” He’s right. Intuition blends emotion and intellect, leading to a deeper understanding.
To realign my intuition, I began with simple practices:
I filtered the information I consumed. For instance:
• I stopped watching content that stirred extreme emotions. Both negative and positive extremes distort reality. Balance is key.
• I deleted most of my social media accounts, retaining only those necessary for my business. I found that social media can often distract more than it helps.
• I started taking beach walks and sitting in silence, reflecting on ways to quiet my mind. My wife has been a calming force in my life, helping me find peace in silence.
I immersed myself in books, blogs, podcasts, and videos. This ongoing learning kept me inspired and engaged.
I wrote and rewrote often, experimenting with different styles and tools. Most important, I wrote for myself. Like this blog, my writing serves my own clarity; if it helps others, that’s an added bonus.
These practices resonate with my dreams and inner voice. Analyzing dreams and listening to these voices has become crucial for me. If given the opportunity, I would love to write a book on this topic.
Through deep introspection, I nurtured my intuition. Where I once survived, I now embrace living.
I recognized that my mind-body connection was weak. To address this, I turned to meditation and sought silent retreats. I integrated meditation into my daily life, creating a sense of flow in everything I do. This state of mind is challenging to articulate but enriching.
Balancing logic with creativity has also sharpened my intuition. I find peace in hiking and watching sunrises, often dreaming up business ideas inspired by my fellow hikers.
I’ve merged all aspects of myself into a cohesive flow, refining my intuition to align with my true self rather than external noise.
Here are some tips for cultivating your intuition:
• Pay attention to strong feelings, even if their origins are unclear.
• Quiet your mind to connect with your intuition.
• Spend time in nature to ground yourself and tap into your inner wisdom.
• Track your thoughts and feelings to identify patterns in your intuition.
Recalibrating your intuition is a journey that requires introspection, balance, and a willingness to embrace the inner voice.
I encourage you to explore these practices in your own life and witness how they enrich your experience.
